who's that knocking friendly at my door?
the dog barks once, twice, barks three times
then barks nevermore
who's that gathering up along the sides?
cold breath humming, and buzzing, and coming
like a swarm of flies
the box reassures with a wealth of glowing smiles
one after another as i peek over the covers
and turn my glowing dials
the grotesque masquerade quivers and abounds
a palpable spiral of images and sounds
one vision says one thing
another says another
the voices become louder as they burrow deeper under
i can't be completely sure
but i think they're talking to me
i don't believe a word they say
but i'm compelled to agree
the liquid begins dripping
the contents begin to drain
and we splash around blindly in the dark withering rain
