ooooooo the streetlights are shining heat bright
i'm armed to my teeth with mode and means peach rife
dirty wings flutter
sending hurried shudders
up the twisted spine of the real world
reptilian by nature, by nurture cold-blooded
gonna burn it down, salt the earth, lay concrete and flood it
with whispers and dreams
and everything between
gonna turn up the volume, gotta oil that machine
and the venom should be sweet
but on the contrary
it courses through the circuits like the bitterest taste of cherry
and the only sound worse than the stretching of the meat
is the shattering of the eggshells underneath their feet
oh no, where'd the time go?
you can see their banner blowing as they march by your window
uh oh, they've got you in their hand
through the burlap sack on your head you can hear them chant
"who will entomb this capsule in the ground?
who will remember to forget it's sound?
who will bask in the radiant scorn?
who will lay the dirt?
who will mourn?"
toothless they try to chew through the sky
ruthless they fry and useless they find
the measured movements of a misused eye
leave itself empty and it's counterpart blind
and another head grows out and screams it's name
demands the fortunes for which it came
and the streets become alive with the sounds of the voices
and with tumored gestures and voices they stain
one last grasp for that piece of rain
one last gasp to see the name
the box will flicker and it will stay
